Why do Massachusetts Drivers Need a Union?

GigCampaign_InsideCar_Boston

Right now, thousands of Massachusetts drivers across our state are struggling to provide for our families.

We’re asking for the app industry to be held to the same standards as every other workplace in our state.

Uber and Lyft are our primary income to provide for our families. These are not “gig” jobs. For many of us, these are full-time jobs that we can count on to survive. After paying for gas, vehicle wear and tear, and other expenses out of pocket, there is not much left over, especially since car expenses have exploded.

We are standing together to: improve our pay per mile, stop the risk to our rating when we decide not to take rides, keep our flexibility, and have the freedom to negotiate to improve our working conditions. Together, we, the drivers, can make changes so that Uber, Lyft, and other apps improve conditions for drivers in Massachusetts.

In November 2024, we won the right to collectively bargain over our wages and working conditions. Now, we’re organizing a driver-led and powered organization to sit down with the companies and negotiate a better contract for all MA rideshare drivers.

If you’re an active driver in MA, sign your ADU card now! We are stronger together.

Every day that we go to work, we are at risk of losing our livelihood at the click of a button. With no deactivation appeals process, our ability to pay our bills lies fully at the whims of the app companies. Uber and Lyft treat drivers like we are disposable. We will not let these app companies take advantage of us any longer! We can’t let the companies keep the majority of the money that we earn driving.

We are standing together to: improve our pay per mile, stop the risk to our rating when we decide not to take rides, keep our flexibility, and have the freedom to negotiate to improve our working conditions. Together, we, the drivers can make changes so that Uber, Lyft and other apps improve conditions for drivers in Massachusetts.
